TH&TH Trusted: Pompadour Lingerie
We know that it's not just about the dress on your wedding day. The lingerie you choose is just as important and as special. We meet Georgia from the exquisite Pompadour Lingerie for a behind the scenes look at her beautiful brand. Images by the talented Jackie Parsons.
When did you realise there was a gap in the market for luxury bridal lingerie?
About 4 years ago a few of my girlfriends were engaged and were struggling to find tasteful and luxurious bridal garters. I made them garters as gifts and it kind of started from there!
I had watched the opulent film Marie Antoinette starring Kirsten Dunst and thought up the name Pompadour. I loved everything about the film, the colours and the extravagance inspired me.
What led you to the lingerie industry?
After the first year running Pompadour garters I was asked by a few brides to make matching lingerie sets. And then started Pompadour Lingerie.
What has been your career highlight so far?
I've had lots of highlights in my career with Pompadour but feel being stocked in Suzanne Neville's Knightsbridge boutique among her elegant dresses really made me feel proud. Being a small independent brand stocked in such a prestige design house is truly amazing!
Every time a bride orders Pompadour Lingerie it excites me that I'm producing something that is liked and wanted by others.
How long does it take you to design a collection?
It doesn't take long to design a collection as usually ideas have been playing around in my head for a while. I dream designs at night all of the time and when one sticks!...
You offer a bespoke service, but for a client what would this entail?
Our bespoke service was a natural progression and allows brides and private clients to either design their own lingerie or be involved in the design process. Customers can either come visit me at my studio or I can go to them. If the distance is too far we can work via email and post sending images samples and sketches. I like to send image updates of each stage of the production too so my customer can see how their lingerie is being made from pattern to machine to hand embroidery and finishing touches.
What are your favourite trends when it comes to bridal lingerie?
I try to cater for a variety of tastes in my designs but key trends do have an influence. For example, the latest bridal garters are more flush fitting allowing brides who choose a fitted dress to be able to wear a garter. And for those brides not too keen on lace we have a laser cut leather garter which is soft and very Chic!
What are your top tips for brides choosing wedding day lingerie?
You can always slip into something a bit more special later that evening.
What are your top tips for wedding night lingerie?
Wear something that makes you feel and look amazing! Our collections come in a range of colours and black is equally popular for honeymoon lingerie and can be worn again.
What would you say is the biggest selling point for your brand?
My brand is handmade to order in my studio. If someone is a size 10 top but 12 bottom then it can be made to fit. Or if a bride likes a particular piece but wants to personalise it then that is easily done.
