TH&TH are a little bit in love with Christmas and all things cosy, chic and festive. Our luxe travel expert Anna Stevenson recently jetted off on a romantic trip to the French & Swiss Alps and reported back on the best way to find Narnia style magic to give you that Hygge hit!
"I am obsessed with this time of year and crave that feeling of being all cosy in a cabin watching the snow settling. So when I visited the Alps recently all my winter dreams came true.
Our first stop was Chamonix, the most beautiful mountain town. I would recommend giving yourselves a bit of distance from the hustle and bustle of the centre to achieve maximum tranquility. We stayed a 15 mins walk down the river at Chalet Les Praz, the ultimate in mountain chic. Views of Mont Blanc from the terrace, a traditional wooden chalet with luxury modern interiors, cow-hide throws and rugs. The perfect setting for a romantic break or a great group retreat.
If you're a ski bunny treat yourself after those full on days on the slopes with a night in the 5 star Hotel Mont Blanc. The ultimate in alpine indulgence. Candy pink art-deco inspired furnishings paired with shades of creamy cappuccino décor. Pink macaroons on arrival, an abundance of Clarins toiletries and marble bath tubs with huge walk-in rain showers is total perfection after working hard on the mountain.
Top room tip: A suite with a balcony over-looking the beautiful pool and Mont Blanc means you can literally soak up the winter sun whilst viewing the ice-capped -5 degree mountain tops. A rare luxury in itself. The stunning poolside resembles something out of a Slim Aarons image. With an outdoor Jacuzzi and a luxurious Clarins spa, a haven of relaxation amongst the buzzy snowy streets of Chamonix.
After dark, sip huge glasses of Cognac cocktails on the terrace and you'll have found heaven!
For the next stop on our winter tour we ventured over to Switzerland and checked into the stunning Cambrian Adelboden. A modern and contemporary hotel nestled into the mountainside. The views will take your breath away instantly, it's an alpine paradise and one of the most romantic spots I've ever been to.
The service here is second to none, you will feel so at ease and comfortable, it's a home from home. One of my top tips is to book in for their afternoon tea whilst looking out onto your own personal Narnia. It is pure magic!
We spent A LOT of time in their outdoor pool, listed in the top 5 of Conde Nast's pools to see before you die and you can certainly see why.
As a romantic winter getaway this trip really can't be beaten. This would make the most magical proposal destination and also a short break pre wedding for some much needed down time before the planning madness begins.
We had such a mix of alpine activity and snowy relaxation you can decide how full on or laid back to make it, for us it was the perfect blend. We can't wait to do it again."
